80pc RMG units pay Eid bonus

Around 80 percent of readymade garment factories have paid festival allowances and a number of factories paid wage to their workers for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha till Tuesday.  Industry sources, however, said that a number of factories are still facing some financial problems to pay festival allowances and salary.Most of the factories are located in Dhaka and Gazipur area.Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Vice President (Finance) told the Daily Sun that they are trying their best to ensure payment of salary and festival allowances to their workers by tomorrow (Thursday).He acknowledges that a very few factories are facing some problem to pay festival allowances and wages, but the BGMEA director said, “We are working hard to solve the problem with urgency.”“The BGMEA is committed to clear workers’ Eid bonus and wages before the Eid vacation begins, said the BGMEA Vice President.“We paid the festival bonus to our workers on August 24, the deadline fixed by the government,” said Mostafiz Uddin, Maniging Director of Denim Expert Ltd. (DEL), a Chitagong EPZ based Denim garment factory, in a social media message.    “We are happy to share with you a glimpse of our Eid festival at DEL and want to multiply our joy and happiness by sharing and caring the festival for each other”, he added. “We are consulting with BGMEA leaders how to pay the festival allowances and wages to workers of those factories which are in troubles,” Bangladesh Garment Workers Employees League President Sirajul Islam Roni told the Daily Sun. “Around 80 of garments factories have paid festival allowances to their workers,” also confirmed Industrial Police DG Md Nowsher Ali and hoped that rest would make the payment before the Eid.
