SNV to work with trade bodies, NGOs on RMG workers’ health

The SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has signed partnership agreements with some trade bodies and non-government organisations (NGO) to leverage a collaborative approach to improve the health and welfare of workers of the country’s garment sector. It inked the agreements with Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS), Better Work Bangladesh, Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI), Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), Phulki, UCEP Bangladesh and SAJIDA Foundation in a ceremony at a hotel in the capital on Thursday. The collaboration is established under the “Working with Women-2” project, implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation with financial support from the Netherlands. The project authority will work with 200 factories through different mechanisms and platforms to ensure sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of workers of the readymade (RMG) garment industry. Faruque Hasan, President of DBCCI, Louis B Vanegas, Chief Technical Adviser of Better Work Bangladesh, Fazlul Hoque, Director of SAJIDA Foundation, Tahsina Ahmed, CEO of UCEP Bangladesh, Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, Executive Director of BILS, Suraiya Haque, Executive Director of Phulki, Md Bablur Rahman, country representative of FW, Jason Belanger, country director of SNV Bangladesh, and Farhtheeba Rahat Khan, team leader of Working with Women Project, were present in the ceremony, among others.
