Dutch envoy for positively branding BD RMG sector

The stakeholders of Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector will focus on establishing positive branding of the country’s apparel industry in the world, hoped The Netherlands ambassador in Dhaka. Envoy Harry Verweij expressed the hope while visiting Plummy Fashions Ltd, the country’s first globally-certified green knitwear factory, in Narayanganj on Monday. According a press release, Harry Verweij’s wife Akkie Okma and his son Berend Jan Aiso Verweij accompanied him during the visit. The Dutch envoy visited different sections of Plummy Fashions which received LEED Platinum certificate from USGBC. Walking round the factory Harry Verweij appreciated the initiatives implemented by the apparel factory owner to make it a comfortable workplace for the workers and to protect the environment. He also expressed his satisfaction over the significant development taken place in the country’s RMG industry in recent years. The concerned stakeholders will now focus to establish positive branding of the local RMG sector in the rest of the world, Verweij said. The green initiatives taken by Plummy and others will also help a lot in this respect, he added. Managing Director of Plummy Fashions and also former president of BKMEA Fazlul Hoque, directors of Plummy Faysal Parag and Ikramul Hoque Rayan were also present, among others.
