BGMEA forms board to hold election for 2021-22 term

The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has reportedly formed a board to hold the next election (for the 2021-22 term), while also forming an election appellate board, recently.

This is as per media reports which claimed the board is headed by Director of the Institute of Business Administration-University of Dhaka, Prof. Syed Ferhat Anwar while the election appellate board is headed by the President at Bangladesh Employers’ Federation Kamran T. Rahman.

Chairperson at the Business Initiative Leading Development, Abul Kasem Khan and Vice-President at the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation, Habibullah N. Karim are other members of the board that has been formed to hold the election for the 2021-22 term while Chief Executive Officer of the Consortium for Business Development Services, Shafquat Haider and former President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Syed Nasim Manzur are the other members of the election appellate board.

The report also underlined that as per the Commerce Ministry, a trade organisation has to hold an election at least 15 days before the expiry of the existing committee.
