Ethiopia sinks 5.40% in its apparel exports to USA in November ’20

Ethiopia has seen a yearly decline in its garment exports to USA in November ’20 both in values and volumes, according to OTEXA. The African country clocked US $ 21.96 million from its shipment to USA in the 11th month of 2020, declining 5.40 per cent on yearly basis. In terms of volumes, Ethiopia’s shipment dropped by 7.10 per cent to 8.30 million. Cumulatively in Jan.-Nov. ’20, the country still managed to remain positive in its apparel shipment to USA as it clocked US $ 207.19 million, growing 7.49 per cent on Y-o-Y basis. As far as other African countries are concerned, only Kenya managed to stay positive in November ’20 both in values (12.40 per cent) and volumes (17.80 per cent). Kenya tapped US $ 37.19 million in the month of November to ship 9.86 million SME worth of garments to USA. However, Kenya saw a steep decline of 15.82 per cent in Jan.-Nov. ’20 and export values totalled US $ 357 million. All other African countries (Lesotho, Madagascar, Tanzania etc.) plunged significantly in their respective exports to USA in November as well as in Jan.-Nov. ’20 period.
