Garment factories to open in phases by next week

Garment factories in Bangladesh are going to open in phases within next week and go into full-scale operation even as some have already opened up and started operation in the last few days after Eid.

Reports claimed this citing various sources.

Speaking to the media, the acting President of IndustriALL Bangladesh Council (IBC), Salauddin Swapan, reportedly, stated that factories have given their workers leaves till this Friday while underlining that majority of the factories will become fully operational from next week even as the President of Bangladesh Industrial and Garment Workers Federation (BIGWF), Babul Akhter, on his part stated most owners will open the factories at the beginning of next week.

Meanwhile, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), SM Mannan Kochi, reportedly, maintained that many factories have not yet gone into production in full swing while also adding that several garment manufacturing units do not have work orders, and even if they do, it is much lower than usual due to the coronavirus pandemic and hence those are taking time to open up slowly.
