Bangladesh garment exporters call for restoration of previous cash incentive rates

Garment exporters and textile millers voiced their plea for the continuation of previous levels of export cash incentives and policy backing to enhance competitiveness, addressing the challenges posed by ongoing global events.

These appeals were articulated in separate meetings convened in Dhaka recently.

Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA); Mohammad Ali Khokon, President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association; and Mohammad Hatem, Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, collectively advocated for maintaining cash incentives during discussions with Finance Division Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder at the secretariat office in Dhaka.

This meeting was prompted by the Government’s circular last year, which reduced cash incentives on export receipts in preparation for the country’s transition to developing nation status.

Furthermore, in another meeting held at the secretariat, the BGMEA president, alongside State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam, emphasised the necessity for extended policy support to bolster competitiveness in the industry
