Minimum wage Tk 10K suggested for BD’s cotton textile workers

On 22 February, the minimum wage board suggested Taka 10,000 for the workers in the cotton textile industry of Bangladesh. The current minimum, which was established in 2018, is Taka 5,710.

Before creating the draft suggestions, the board had separate meetings with the proprietors and staff of a few textile companies across the nation.
Representatives of the Minimum Wages Board stated that the board took into consideration input from employers and employees before approving its draft proposals for sector workers.

According to Raisha Afroz, the minimum wages board secretary, every board member approved the final draft of the minimum pay.

Taka 10,000 is the recommended wage for a worker in grade 10, which is the lowest grade. The base wage is Taka 5,000, the housing rent for the Upazila town is Taka 3,000, the medical benefits are Taka 750, the travel expenses are Taka 400, and the food allowance is Taka 850.

It has been suggested that the district town’s minimum wage Taka 10,350.
The total includes Taka 5,000 for basic salary, Taka 3,250 for housing rent (65% of basic pay), Taka 750 for medical benefits, Taka 500 for travel expenses, and Taka 850 for food allowance.

A minimum monthly salary of Taka 10, 700 has been recommended for the divisional town’s workforce, which includes Taka 5,000 for basic pay, or 70% of the basic pay. Rent for the house is Taka 3,500, medical expenses are Taka 750, transport expenses are Taka 600, and food expenses are Taka 850.

The proposed salary scale for workers in nine more grades was withheld by the wage board secretary.

Shahjahan Saju, the workers’ representative on the wage board, announced that the wage proposals had been finalized and that the total pay for all grades would shortly be published in a gazette notice.
