Brazil’s textile output increased by 36% in the first half of 2021

According to Fernando Pimentel, President of Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association), Brazil’s textile output increased by 36% from January to May 2021 when compared to the same period in 2020. Pimentel also mentioned the increase in garment manufacture, as well as commerce and, most importantly, jobs. Other important aspects of the current situation and the effects of changes in the world as of 2020 were highlighted by the executive, including the textile sector’s more pronounced recovery, which in 2020 will be able to maintain production with protective items, such as masks, and the fact that the sector has not yet recovered to its pre-pandemic numbers, but the outlook is positive for it to grow.

When it comes to clothes, the section is seeing signs of recovery from the pandemic’s worst point, when the trade was shut down in April 2020. He said that sales revenues are anticipated to increase by 121 percent in 2021, compared to the previous year, when they fell by 81 percent. Textile output is anticipated to increase by 7.4% in 2021, reaching 2 million tonnes. In terms of revenue, Pimental expects a 9.2% rise over 2020, bringing the total to R$57.5 billion.
